Climate and Temperature in Dubai
When you plan a vacation to Dubai, you obviously want the weather to be pleasant. It's a good idea to know in advance which period is most suitable for a trip to this luxurious emirate in the Middle East. The following charts provide a quick overview of Dubai's weather: average temperatures, hours of sunshine, average sea temperature, and precipitation. With this information, you'll have a clear idea of the best months for your sunny holiday in Dubai.
Dubai's Climate in the Summer Months
The famous emirate is known for being sunny and very hot most of the time. Temperatures of 40°C (104°F) are not uncommon. Due to its desert climate, it is never cold in Dubai. Spring begins in March with about 9 hours of sunshine and temperatures around 23°C (73°F), while by the end of May, it’s already around 31°C (88°F). June through September is the hottest period of the year, with temperatures reaching around 41°C (106°F). However, the average temperature in the summer is typically in the mid-30s°C (mid-90s°F). Air conditioning and a swimming pool are not a luxury but a necessity if you visit Dubai during the summer months. Even the sea temperature is around 31°C (88°F) to 33°C (91°F), so for some, it offers little escape from the heat.
Rainfall during the summer months is extremely low, with no more than 30 millimeters throughout the entire period. June has up to 12 hours of sunshine per day. From April to October, there are about 10 hours of sunshine each day. Drinking plenty of water is crucial when visiting Dubai in the summer months.
Dubai's Climate in the Winter Months
While many countries are ideal for a beach holiday in the (Dutch) summer months, it’s a bit different in Dubai. The emirate is perfect for a winter sun holiday. The winter months run from December to February and offer comfortable, though still warm, weather. The coolest months are around 19°C (66°F) to 21°C (70°F). With the highest temperatures around 25°C (77°F), this period is perfect for a city break or a relaxing beach holiday. The winter months are also when Dubai experiences the most rainfall, averaging 150 millimeters during the entire period. However, considering that in the Netherlands, 100-200 millimeters of rain can fall in just one month, this is relatively insignificant.
February is the wettest month of the year, with 40 millimeters of rain. During winter, the sea temperature is a pleasant 20°C (68°F), so taking a refreshing dip is ideal! The number of sunshine hours is somewhat lower in winter compared to the summer months. However, with an average of 8 hours of sunshine per day, it’s still quite high.
What are my personal experiences?
Summer can be quite hot, with temperatures around 40 degrees or higher. The winter months are the best time to visit. May and September can also be quite warm but manageable. You quickly get used to the heat, and personally, I prefer the sun and warmth over the cold winters in the Netherlands with wind and rain. I never get sick from the sun, but long, dark, cold days in the Netherlands affect me.
If you decide to go on a property viewing trip, you'll spend most of the daytime indoors at a sales center. In the evening, once it cools down, you can head to Kite Beach for a sunset swim, enjoy trendy dining in Downtown, go for a run at the Marina, or have a drink at One & Only on Palm Jumeirah. There's so much to do that you'll have to make some tough choices.
